Who is eligible for Medicare?

For most people, you must be 65 years of age and be a legal resident of the United States. There are exceptions that can be discussed.

What steps do I need to take?

Up to 3 months before your 65th birthday you need to call SSA and register for Part A. You will have the choice to register for Part B and Part D is you are still working.

Do my husband/partner and I have to have the same plan?

No. You can each select a plan that matches your medical needs.

Do I have to pay for Medicare?

Yes. There is a monthly premium for Part B that all beneficiaries are responsible for paying. Depending on the plan you choose there may be a monthly premium as well as deductible, co-pays and co-insurances.

What if I also have Medi-cal?

There are plans available specifically for those individuals who meet financial requirements.

Is there a charge for your services?

No. CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid) strictly monitors how agents are compensated; the providers follow strict CMS guidelines to pay agents.

What are the different types of plans?

You can enroll in original Medicare and a supplemental plan, a Medicare Advantage (MA) plan with a separate prescription plan (PDP) or a Medicare Advantage with an embedded Prescription Drug plan (MAPD).
